Operating lease payments are recognised as part of other operating expenses in the income statement on a straight-line basis over the term of the lease.
Research and development expenses for continuing operations amounted to EUR 17.1 million (2008: EUR 17.1 million) and are included in several of the other operating expenses for EUR 5.7 million (2008: EUR 6.6 million). Remaining research and development costs are included in personnel costs for EUR 9.9 million (2008: EUR 9.7 million) and depreciation and amortisation expenses for EUR 1.5 million (2008: EUR 0.9 million).
